Why Do We Go To Church?

This morning I had a question on my mind that wouldn’t leave.

why do we go to church?

My answer would be revealed in TLCC’s service, but before I could arrive there, I would lock myself out of my apartment. I got ready for church and was moving slower by the minute. I didn’t have my clothes laid out, and my mind was plagued with what I wanted to accomplish in the day,

-workout, church, webinar, clean the house, finish cooking dinner…. my mind was racing a mile a minute. I was also thinking about my sister, wanting to tell her to slow down. we met up briefly the day before and talked about her wedding, and she kept telling me she was on a time limit with our quick meeting.

So after locking myself out, dressed in grey tights, a black skirt, burgundy shirt, white tank, and black winter coat, I went for a walk to the main office to see if they would be open and be able to unlock the doors. before reaching the doors I saw the sign said closed.

I took down the main office number and slowly, slightly discouraged walked back to my door. I called then texted my husband and I managed to get through with the help f maintenance. Learning that it would cost me the same amount of time I had to wait to get my key. $45.00.

I chatted up with my girlfriends and let them know about my day. and waited.

Part of me felt like, why do I have to go to church? Maybe this is a sign to stay home?

I made it to church and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stay.

I walked through the doors wondering how much of the sermon I’d receive. Instead, someone gave me a compliment and listened to my rough start of the day, and encouraged me to stay and have coffee.

So I did. the other option would have been to go to my home church.

I stayed and listened to Pastor Terry to speak.

When I heard the sermon, it woke me up in the sense that not only was he talking about vision and planning but my question of why we go to church was answered. we are built to do LIFE together. When the sermon goes up, I’ll be sure to link it below, but it made me want to hear the past sermons as well.

We are to do life with one another. Life in a family environment. We need to be surrounded by people that believe in us and support us in actualizing God’s dreams for our lives. We need people that are on the same path as us.

This made so much sense. We were never meant to do life alone. And as we plan for our future, it’s easier to reach your goals when you’re in community with people that are on the same path as you.

Later in the evening, we got the news that Kobe Bryant and his daughter passed. It made me wonder why God would allow things like this to happen. Why do we get the news the way we do, and why allow a man and his daughter to die in such a grave way? My heart and prayer go out to the family, friends and loved ones mourning at this time.

The shade room posted a video of Kobe, and incase the video link ever breaks, Kobe says,

Have a good time. Enjoy Life. Life is to short to get bogged down, discouraged or uhh… you have to keep moving, you have to keep going. Put one foot in front of the other, keep going and smile keep on rolling.

This is a reminder for me that regardless of who you are you can impact other people’s life. Do the work God calls you to do. and surround yourself with people that believe in you.

This blog is just that. Connecting with people interested in the same thing. Getting there from here to there.
