Hawaii

The other day I stepped out my house and was on my way to the gym for a workout. I happen to see my neighbor walking his dog. It's been a bit since I've seen him due to the fridgid weather. We exchanged our greetings and I heard him say, "I still want to take that trip". Last year ( I don't think it's been a full year) he lost his wife. I'm not sure what her medical conditions were. I just know she had an air tank. Similar to one my uncle had when he had cancer. He shared with me how he wanted to go to Hawaii - that it's been the one trip he's wanted to go to. It got me thinking. We put everything else and everything else first. We are consumed by our bills, other people's lives and yet we look up and it seems that life has passed us by. Often I wonder, what determines a fulfilled life? If I were rich my neighbor would be on a first class flight with a friend or two headed to Hawaii. In the mean time, all I can do is encourage him to keep walking and to continue being mobile. I don't want to grow old and not be able to take that one trip I've always dreamed of.
