What Is Design?

If I were to ask you, "What is design" how would you answer it - without the help of Google search that is!Is it too late? Did you put the the question into Google's search bar?That's ok. The questioned was rolling in my head and made me wonder if I knew the true definition do design. Let me expound on a few of the definitions that stood out to me the most.The Latin word is designare, which is to designate.I really liked  the definition from the University of Illinois at Chicago's definition;

Design is about progress. It is the conceptualization and creation of new things: ideas, interactions, information, objects, typefaces, books, posters, products, places, signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more. Designers imagine and make. They also research and think.

Skilled in one or more specialties of the discipline, designers use their abilities in collaboration with others. Designers want to make ideas real and to make a difference.

A career in design is more than a job. It is a way of seeing; a way of interacting with the world. It is a way of life.

Walk up to someone and tell them you are a designer. Often you will be met with a search for additional details to know what it is you design. For that reason, I believe design is to be taken, applied and directed to something with intention and purpose. It shouldn't be arbitrary nor should it lack extensive thought.Design is having the ability to entice change and curiosity, generate visceral experiences, that catapult people to do things differently.What are your thoughts about the definition and meaning of design?
