The Act Of Showing Up = Discipline. (Day 12)
I entered this 30 writing challenge to build discipline, and to get a solid topic that I'd want to write about daily. Truth be told today I woke up feeling like I wish today was day thirty and I could go back to publishing once a week! Discipline is a way train oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way. Discipline is doing what you have to do, when you have to do it, regardless if you like it or not. As I write this, I have just finished my swimming class and sat in my car and wasted 30 min going down a rabbit hole on Facebook. I was allowing my distractions hold me from writing even longer. I even had a topic arranged - but I wanted to be wide awake and have a bit more energy to type out that story. I am always amazed by the discipline people have when it comes to eating healthy, working out everyday or publishing a blog post everyday. One person who has done this very well is Seth Godin. I have no idea if he has ever missed a post, but his blog posts come straight to my inbox. He doesn't always publish 1,000 words a day but his posts are always thoughtful and insightful, thought provoking even. One thing that doesn't feel like discipline is showing up for art and design classes. I get so intrigued and lost in the work that hours can go by. I won't need food to eat, I can just keep going. Showing up for twelve days is nothing. Anyone can do that. I'm realizing you have to push past the resenting feeling, of I don't want to do this. It's almost like a temper tantrum. Despite how tired I am I'm happy I showed up today. I'm going to keep pushing past the resistance, and continue to practice the discipline in writing everyday.
