Discipline (day 4)

Today's prompt:

  1. Choose a topic (main point)
  2. Write about why you chose this topic (intro)
  3. Write what you have to say on the topic (main content)
  4. Summarize the topic (outro)

Starting surely is the hardest part.Discipline and consistency is even more so difficult -we let other things get in the way, or get distracted.Discipline doesn't have a nice definition to it either:

the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.
"a lack of proper parental and school discipline"

(a Googled definition)

If I am to write every day, and early in the morning it starts the day before. Meaning going to bed earlier so that I can be well reseted, choosing a topic, and writing freely about what ever is on my mind.Last night I got in really late - like really, really, really late. While I still got up at 8 am I know I need to practice the discipline to go to bed.Right now I am prepping for an event tonight and yet I know that I still need to make up for that loss of sleep. Other wise it will catch up to me.I constantly think, "what can I eliminate on my plate to be better efficient with what I am doing?" The only answer is to start saying no - and not waver when saying it, and to make a schedule and stick to it.I've heard of creating margin when making schedules because you know, stuff happens. You can't make a schedule really tight and expect it to go smoothly. Ask any bride if her event went 100 percent correctly and I am sure more than 50 percent will tell you no.I am determined to come out successfully in this 30 day writing challenge - which is why I've been allowing this to post to my Facebook timeline, and my twitter. There have been countless other blogs that I've started and just allow to trickle off. However, I do enjoy the act of writing - be it analog (pencil an paper) or sitting down typing and pouring out my thoughts.I think its important to establish my own rules and code of behavior. I'm hoping these next thirty days do help in training myself. I've heard Nathan Barry set up his drafted posts for thirty days and If he forgot to go in and write, then a blank post would publish. I've been thinking about that. to set up automatic posts and to be sure I am putting restriction on my time - so I can use it much more wisely.so my rules:

  • 7 hours of sleep minimum
  • work out three times a week
  • sketch and write

So a quick recap - Discipline is doing what you should do, when you should do it, even when you don't feel like it.To not letting resistance win!!
