finding motivation to create during a layoff

inding motivation to create during a layoff 05/11/2020

In 2017 I signed up for Lauren Hom’s Passion to Paid course. I was so excited at the time and had so many different ideas oozing out of our video conversations. But at the time I really lacked focus. One day it was lettering, the next it was illustration. Then I wanted a project that could do both. Recently I took to going back and listening to these conversations,  and this time I did it with a notebook in hand. I took notes and wrote out all of the project ideas. This time the one that stood out is the one I am working on. Even more so, since I have a plethora of free time on my hands I have time to research and implement immediately.

The side project I am currently working on is called letters of truth. I love taking parts in devotionals, but there are times where it seems like there is a ton of fluff - things to only make you feel good. I reached out to my pastor and he liked the idea and gave me additional resources to look for commentary on the biblical text. I’ll be keeping a journal about how i am processing things right now since being laid off.

With that, the first illustration for the cover is sketched. I’ll continue to document the process. and journal blog the way. Below are the sketches and notes I took while listening to a refresher course on hand lettering from skillshare. The course was by Martina Flor, The Golden Secrets To Hand Lettering.

Below are my notes and sketches from the class. Here, you can access two months free.
