Pen Pals

Let me tell you, the best thing you can do as a creative is to continue to find ways to continue to create.

Point Blank Period.

Currently, I am in the process of taking Lauren Homs’ Passion To Paid course. I wish I stumbled upon this earlier but I am really excited to see what comes of it. It’s Ten weeks long, we are invited to her private group and there is a push to be creative and explore.

It’s far too easy as a creative to be judgmental and criticize oneself.

I’ve decided to participate in the #penmanshippals on Instagram.

When I saw the response it surely made me smile!!

I think it’s amazing to see how other people create and it’s great to pull insight from them and techniques – but never to blatantly copy.

Here is what I wrote in my first post:

keshnadonia: @homsweethom and @stefankunz have been writing back through #PenmanshipPals. I’ve decided to join in! When was the last time you had a pen pal? 💌Though we’ve never met, @briani29 and I have just became @instagram lettering friends, and we’ve decided to be #PenmanshipPals. We’ll be lettering and writing notes about work & life to each other through Instagram posts so y’all can follow along! Even better, we encourage you to connect other creatives on Instagram and find a penmanship pal of your own 😊 Use the hashtag #penmanshippals to see what we’re all chatting about 💕

Dear Sabrina,
I’m so excited to be taking part in these creative online projects! I’ve been craving to do more work that is out the box, (figuratively and literally as I am a product and packaging design engineer)

Over the past few years I’ve been dabbling in lettering and calligraphy. Seeing other peoples’ work left me feeling paralyzed and conflicted because I thought I just wasn’t good enough. I also wasn’t sure that I wanted to be labeled as a lettering artist only because I have so many other interests. I’m learning to combine the interests in unique ways and its fueling my idea bank. I enjoy getting to connect with new people and I am really interested in travel. I’ve been pushing past those feelings and I’m looking forward to see what comes of this #passiontopaid course. I’d like to get better at combining my painting and hand lettering skills. One thing I’ve embraced this year is getting out of my comfort zone. I’ve been going to more meet and greets, conferences and investing in myself. My next conference is the #seanwes conference in Austin this September. What do you have going on? and did you get to launch your p2p project?

x Keshna

I didn’t think I’d get a response so quickly, but I did!

For @homsweethom Passion to Paid classes! When was the last time you had a pen pal? 💌Though we've never met, the sweet @keshnadonia and I have just became @instagram lettering friends, and we've decided to be #PenmanshipPals. We'll be lettering and writing notes about work & life to each other through Instagram posts so y'all can follow along! Even better, we encourage you to connect other creatives on Instagram and find a penmanship pal of your own 😊 Use the hashtag #penmanshippals to see what we're all chatting about 💕 Hey Keshna, hello & nice to meet you! I have been really excited taking the #passiontopaid courses so far. I joined because I am a big fan of Lauren Hom and her works for a couple of years now. I saw her beautiful murals and lettering art and said, "Damn, she's living the life I've always dreamed. How do I get there?" Art has always been a part of my life. My current job is a product designer, but I love painting, hand lettering, scrap booking and creating mixed media magic 😊 I have so many interests and passions that choosing one to focus on is very difficult for me, which is why I joined Passion to Paid. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the Sean Wes Conference coming up. So tell me what's the most interesting thing you've learned about yourself so far in the course? Looking forward to getting to know you! 💛, Sabrina
